The “Kalamazoo Gals” exhibit looks at the history of the Gibson Guitar Company in Kalamazoo, with special focus on the World War II era. Starting with Orville Gibson and ending with Heritage Guitar Inc., this exhibit shows off the varied products created by Gibson over the years. The WWII-era story comes to life with projects completed by John Thomas, including oral histories from the ladies who built Gibson’s “Banner” guitars (so named for the motto banner inlaid on the headstock). Hear the stories of these women and see artifacts from the Museum’s collection along with loaned instruments that all tell Gibson’s story. Learn how Kalamazoo is carrying on the legacy of instrument production into the future.
